Beer Batter Brownies

Years ago, I learned a brilliant cooking tip at a local winery.  Replace the water in your brownies with something more flavorful, like a rich red wine, a nice berry fruit juice, coffee, chai, or beer.   Yes, beer!

I realize beer isn’t your typical baking ingredient, but the right beer can certainly impart delicious richness to an ordinary box of brownies.  The flavors in today’s dark chocolate and coffee stouts; nutty toffee belgian quads; dried fruit and molasses barley wines all go perfectly with chocolate.  If you home brew, then consider adding your wort in place of water.

To compliment the beer, add other ingredients like dark chocolate or raspberry chips; toffee bits; dried dates, blueberries or cherries; toasted walnuts or hazelnuts, or whatever else you inner chef conjures up.   Not only will you find the texture to be more decadent and moist, but the flavor will be greatly intensified.  Even better when paired with a bowl of beer ice cream!

I guarantee, after trying these, you will never go back to water again.  Enjoy!
